Our latest single, “Last Summer (Grandpa’s Sign)” is a deeply personal road song about listening to your spirit, family legacy, and coming full circle. Written by Jeff St. Germain nearly a year after returning to Manitoba to be with his grandfather, Ray, during his final days, the trip was inspired by a vivid dream and a sign from the Great Creator telling him that he needed to be there.
At its core, “Last Summer” is about feeling trapped in the heat, concrete, and fast pace of Las Vegas and wanting to leave at any cost. The song follows that pull north towards Manitoba, where memories of the previous summer; family, open roads, prairie skies, and meaningful connections, made life feel real again.
That journey ultimately led to the formation of The Muddy River Band and a promise to return every summer to keep Grandpa’s spirit and legacy alive. With heartfelt storytelling and a nostalgic highway country feel, “Last Summer” is about breaking away from a life that no longer feels right and rediscovering what truly matters.

The Muddy River Band blends classic country with Métis soul, drawing on fiddle driven rhythms, heartfelt storytelling, and the rich cultural roots of the Canadian prairies. Our sound is raw, honest, with a twist of southern rock and a whole lot of heart.
Jeff St.Germain is a two-spirit Métis singer and songwriter, and the voice behind The Muddy River Band. A proud descendant of Canadian music legend Ray St.Germain, Jeff carries on the tradition of storytelling through song, blending country roots with a modern perspective and a deep connection to community, culture, and identity.
Jay Tooke is a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and all-around musical force.
